RIP Hallie D. 1995-2012

 On January the 4th 2012 Hallie committed suicide after she received multiple death threats and explicit insults on sites such as Tumblr & Formspring. As a result of her suicide, organizations such Wiredsaftey, Isafe and Missingkids have asked for teenage bloggers to take extra thought into messages shared especially anonymous has been enabled. Wiredsaftey said “we should take the sad loss of Hallie as a public statement to those who do bully or harass others online”. Our words speak louder than we may anticipate, I encourage all to think before they speak. Rip Hallie D. 1995-2012. Reblog to help raise awareness.

The problem here is that people know they’re being awful. They know what they’re saying and they’re doing it on purpose. How often do you see the bullies go, “Oh she was so happy and beautiful, why did she do this? She had no reason to”? You don’t, because they are well aware that they’re driving someone to suicide. They get on anonymously or not and tell a person they’re worthless, fat, good for nothing, and should go kill themselves. They’re not saying those things lightly or because they’re joking. Bullies don’t grow consciences over night. They’re dickbags through and through, and telling them to wake the fuck up and realize what they’re saying isn’t going to do much. Maybe to the ones who didn’t really mean it (yeah right), or the ones who were just doing what they thought was cool because everyone else picked on the person. But to the people who make bullying their life.. You can’t get through to them. Kids need to be taught from a young age that shit like this will happen, not shown in their prime bullying years.

People think it is alright to do this, to tell people that they are worthless, ugly, fat, etc. BUT THIS IS NOT OK.  Never. People think that they are joking, that they mean no harm, but trust me, it still hurts. It hurts the most when these people are one’s who you can trust, who are your friends, who think they are just kidding. 

But this girl’s life was taken by anonymous strangers who chose to hide behind a computer screen and watch her life fizzle away. Intentionally hiding behind an anonymous mask and making someone you’ve never met before feel like shit to the point that they kill themselves, that is the worst crime. 

Rest in Peace, Hallie D. You are beautiful and you never deserved to die.
